A lawyer for N.C. House Speaker Jim Black admits the speaker’s campaign accepted more than $9,000 in illegal campaign contributions from businesses.

But John Wallace says that figure is far less than the $27,000 state elections board investigator Kim Strach suggested last month.

And Wallace says the total he’s agreed to accept as illegal business contributions represent about one-half of one percent of all contributions Black’s campaign accepted during the time period covered.

Wallace says the Black campaign stands ready to repay that money.
