More from Charlie Brown, via AP:
His attorney, Ken Bell, couldn’t explain when asked why Black accepted the money.
“It’s a great question. I don’t know,” Bell said after the plea was
made. “Whether it’s $10,000, $25,000 or whatever over the course of
five years, it’s not significant money to Dr. Black.”
$10k here, $25k there…pretty soon you’re talking about real money!
“It is a sad day, of course, that a man of such
great accomplishment, 50 years of a professional life, 50 years of
marriage, I think an impeccable reputation to this point, has to go
through this,” Bell said.
Impeck-able at least until a few “sorry sacks of (excrement)” started rat-a-tatting at his seemingly impenetrable fiefdom, that is.
Bell denied that Black told the chiropractors
what to tell the grand jury, and also said the government had inflated
the amount of money Black received.
Then why did he confirm that the information in the criminal information document was true?
Bell couldn’t explain what Black did with the money except that it
didn’t go to other legislators or candidates: “I don’t think he did
anything with it.”
Doesn’t really matter, does it? Maybe he
pocketed it, pulled it out and fondled it a bit during a private
moment, perhaps then put it in his bank account or his house safe.
Point is, he kept it!
