The (Warren Buffet-owned) Winston-Salem Journal reports Forsyth County officials have cancelled the Fourth of July show at Tanglewood Park due to lack of sponsorship:
County Manager Dudley Watts said that with a $10,000 price tag, a fireworks show held without a sponsor sends the wrong message in a tight economy.
“The worst way to describe it is blowing up $10,000 of county money,” Watts said. “While it is not a huge part of the budget, we are about a million and a half dollars out of a (balanced) budget that would have no tax increase. So we can’t do that show without a sponsor.”
Sponsorship has dried up with the tight economy….
