Interesting little window on Speaker Jim Black’s friends, in this case, Charlotte attorney and State Board of Elections member Robert Cordle. But Cordle’s campaign giving seems undersold here, with only $2,000 to Black and “more to other Democrats” mentioned.

To clarify, that means over $12,000 since 2000 to federal candidates including John Edwards (of course) and Al Gore. In 1996, Cordle gave thousands more to Clinton-Gore and to Harvey Gantt’s senate campaign.

And to flesh out the brief mention of Cordle’s crucial involvement with the Alliance for a Better Charlotte, that political action group was specifically formed in 1997 to vote out Mecklenburg County comissioners deemed too conservative by Uptown business interests.

And we wonder why official Charlotte remains mute on Jim Black’s various scandals.
