I think this fling has run its course. With UNCC shutout of the post-season once again thanks thanks to an epic late season collapse and fan enthusiasm for the A-10 at a low ebb, something needs to give. It may not be wholly his fault, but Bobby Lutz just has not been able to put the Niners in that quality mid-major mix. Meanwhile attendance remains sketchy at best, a sure sign that Lutz is not generating the kind of energy UNCC needs out of what is still its marquee sport.

But. Money. A buyout would be costly, not to mention luring an actual upgrade to the job. This at the same time UNCC is trying scrape together cash for its football effort it probably too much for Judy Rose to pull off.

Update: Wow. I was wrong about that. Rose pulled the trigger on Lutz despite the four years still on his contract. Tells me they already have some prospects in mind, possibly High Point native and UNC grad Tony Shaver. Shaver has totally turned William & Mary around and should give the Tar Heels a tough game tomorrow night.
