The truly interesting thing about Time Warner’s News14 Carolina picking up 50 Charlotte Bobcats games for Charlotte and Raleigh is that the move assures that News14 will have something to do for the next year.

What was once a very ambitious local CNN-like news operation was cut in half last year by Time Warner when Belo Corp., owner of WCNC, channel 36, pulled the plug on its support of the channel. Bureaus in Gastonia and Salisbury were closed and back-office functions moved to Raleigh.

Details of the agreement between the Bobcats and Time Warner have yet to be released — if ever — but it is safe to say that each needs the other, so a big cost element — in either direction — would be a surprise.
