Somebody out there is worried about upcoming bond issue support. I got a call last night from someone doing a poll on the proposed bonds for the Durham Public Schools, Durham Tech and the Museum of Life & Science. The caller first asked if I would be apt to support those three bonds. I told him I would probably vote for them, depending on circumstances. Then he asked if the passage of a real estate transfer tax or an increase in the sales tax would jeopardize my support for them. I said it would. Now comes news that the city is seeking a street and sidewalk bond of $10 million. Consider my support for the school, Durham Tech and the museum bonds herewith withdrawn. The City of Durham and Durham County just don’t understand the concept of priorities. You can go to the well too often. And when you waste most of the money you squeeze out of taxpayers, the urge a citizen might have to do their part wanes just a tad.
