Just as debate over the November bond package ramps up, there is unrest brewing in Mint Hill over what community leaders say CMS promised with the 1997 bond package. Northeast Middle was to be revamped with money from that bond, fulfilling needs first identified in 1993. When the project is done in 2009 the school’s capacity will be 1200. Right now the school has almost 1100 students, which makes for a “renovation” that does not do enough, critics of the plan say.
Now CMS has sprung plans for the retrofit on the Mint Hill Board of Commissioners with three days notice and wants permits approved for the project ASAP. Like tomorrow night at 7:30pm. Expect a big crowd out Mint Hill way.
