Don Carrington was featured prominently in Thursday night’s WRAL-TV special about the Global TransPark. “Focal Point: Space Available” chronicled the 14-year, $142 million failed effort to create an air cargo facility near Kinston. Supporters said it would create 50,000 jobs and join Research Triangle Park as a jewel in the state, but Carrington pointed out the project went forward without a serious feasibility study or cost-benefit analysis. To date, the financial hole consists of $31 million in federal funds, $71 million in state funds, and $40 million in local funds. Former governor Jim Hunt maintains his support, telling host Cullen Browder: “In time we’re going to see it as a very good investment.” To read Carrington’s GTP series, visit Carolina Journal.com.
