The latest installment of Max BordersIdeas Matter update features an item exploring the impact of wealth on health.

There’s no doubt about it: wealthier is healthier. Policies that make us less wealthy are those policies that will slow the advance of these life extending innovations. As long as developed nations remain saddled with debt, burdened with higher taxes and suffocated by regulations, we will begin to see stagnation in what might otherwise be an era of tremendous improvement in the quality — and length — of our lives.

Borders’ comments bring to mind “Rational Optimist” Matt Ridley’s comments during a February presentation at Duke University.
