You have to question how serious the governor is about
better budgeting.

Bev Perdue signed Executive Order #5 on January 12, 2009,
shortly after becoming governor.
The order created her Budget Reform and Accountability Commission
(BRAC).  The Commission?s job is to
locate and eliminate wasteful expenditures while increasing efficiency in
government.

She appointed the chairs of the commission on March 13,
announced the members on March 25.

She sent her 2009-2011 budget proposal over to the General
Assembly on March 17.

The Senate
voted on the budget April 8 and 9.

The House voted June 12 and 13.

The governor
expressed shock at income tax proposals included in the budget on July 24,
sending the General Assembly back to the drawing board.

The final $19 billion budget with over
$1 billion in tax increases was voted on August 4 and 5.  The governor signed it into law on
August 8.

However, her waste busting, efficiency finding, wise
investment commission held their FIRST organizational meeting yesterday!

A little late to have any input in the 2009-2011 budget that?s
already law.   Not much for improving government budgeting. Looks good in a
press release though.
