I’ve talked about the Hagan campaign’s reaction (slam Dole) to the financial crisis.

My next question is how will the Teresa Sue Bratton campaign will react to Rep. Howard Coble’s ‘no’ vote on the bailout bill, citing lack of falling sky.

An opportunity here for Bratton that should be exploited, but I’m not seeing anything yet. That is unless she’s opposed to the bill, too……

Update: The N&R’s Doug Clark says “Some say President Bush didn’t explain the plan adequately to the American people.” That would be Rep. Mel Watt:

“The problem is the president has neither the communication skills nor the credibility to convince the American people,” Watt said. “Only the president has that kind of pulpit and he failed woefully when he went out there and tried to make the case.”

If you say so, Mel:

”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

”I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt said.

Bonus observation: Maybe Nancy Pelosi didn’t lose people so much when she slammed Bush as she did when she complimented Barney Frank.
