According to a Wall St. Journal analysis of Duke games Dick Vitale has called:
While the percentage of slobbery comments about Duke was higher than the percentage for the other teams, it isn’t clear that the nickname “Dukie V” applies. Duke’s opponents got 11% of the love too.
..Maybe the best measure of his objectivity is what Vitale said he hears during visits to the two campuses. “I’ll go to Duke and have Duke people say, ‘Oh my god, you love Carolina.’ I go to Carolina on Saturday night and I’ll have people say, ‘Oh my god, I don’t want to hear about Duke tonight.’ In this racket, you can’t please everybody.”
