Winston-Salem city government is pretty busy these days dealing with developers looking for economic incentives.

For starters, developer Kerry Avant says he’s not looking for help from Forsyth County and the City of Winston-Salem to get the downtown Civic Plaza project started, except for the fact that he wants them to fork over $6 million for the park that would serve as the ‘centerpiece.” It would be nice if the county threw in the old courthouse, too.

Menawhile, City Council members are heading to Durham to check up on the developer of the $500 million expansion of Piedmont Triad Research Park —- before he requests incentives.

I’m happy to see that they at least appear to be on top of things.
