Last Thursday, Joe Coletti appeared before the Durham Chamber of
Commerce to explain JLF’s alternative state budget. He spoke before the State and National Legislative Committee, which
included two city council members and numerous business leaders. Dan
Gerlach, fiscal policy advisor to Governor Easley, followed Coletti. When Gerlach touted the fiscal restraint he claims
the governor and legislature have shown,
attendees began to flip through Freedom Budget 2005 and look at JLF’s
charts, which refute some of Gerlach’s spin. Wednesday night, Coletti
joined WTKF’s “Lockwood Phillips Show” to discuss the alternative
budget. Guest host Connie Asero steered the conversation to why the
legislature’s priorities are off the mark and why taxes keep rising. On
his own time, Coletti is among a group of citizens helping Cary Town Councilman Michael Joyce assess the town’s budget.
His participation was noted in a recent Cary News story. Members of the Western Wake Republican Club heard from Don
Carrington last week. He discussed the budget and the slush fund
controlled by legislative leaders. Last week’s
Carolinian featured Jon Sanders’ commentary about a proposed state-run
lottery.
