North Carolina legislators finalized this week a state budget with nearly $1 billion in new taxes. John Hood’s column criticizing the budget plan attracted attention from N.C. Senate Republicans in their daily e-mail media blast, a separate e-mail highlighting the column by itself, and a Web link. Hood also discussed the budget in an interview this morning with Henry Hinton on WTIB Radio. A sales tax hike will generate most of the new projected revenue in the budget. The Charlotte Observer published Wednesday Joseph Coletti’s analysis of the likely impact of that tax hike. Coletti also discussed the problems associated with tax increases during an interview with the radio N.C. News Network.
