As everyone probably knows by now, Congress passed the reconciliation bill.  Here’s some information that may be of interest:

  • The Senate passed the bill by a 56-43 vote.

Senator Burr (R-NC) voted against it and Senator Hagan (D-NC) voted in favor of it.

  • The House passed the bill by a 220-207 vote.

All Republicans in the House voted against the bill.  32 Democrats also voted against the bill.

Besides health care changes, the bill eliminated the Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP) that provided subsidies to banks to provide student loans.  Now all federal student loans will be provided by the government through the Direct Loan program.
