Under current law, the State Board of Education (SBE) is required to review North Carolina’s accountability program every five years.  State education officials initiated the latest review process last year.

On page 75 of the proposed state budget, lawmakers appear to have eliminated that requirement.  While eliminating the requirement would allow the SBE to review the accountability program at different intervals, it would also appear to allow them to forgo review at all.
