Reading Colorado newspapers about New Belgium’s new facility in Asheville, one runs across comments from Oscar Wong, the proprietor of Asheville’s Highland Brewing Company. To oversimplify history, Wong started a business and was very successful. Government, seeking to create jobs, noticed the brewery thing was very successful, so it decided to pay other brewers to come to the area. Now, if Wong wishes to stay in business, he must provide a product so superior that consumers will choose it over competitive brands made less expensive through taxpayer subsidy.
