Just talking about this. Winston-Salem Journal reports:

A streetcar plying the route between Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and destinations downtown would cost almost $180 million to build, but planners say it would return far more than that in additional investment downtown.

Citing a study tracking the experience of other cities that have put in streetcar routes, planners said the streetcar should stimulate new building alongside the tracks that would be worth far more than the cost of the route.

The source of construction costs —plus $4 million annually in operation costs —-has yet to be determined.
