Several years ago, when the Ag Extension was seeking projects, Kathie Lack taught me this was a tell-tale sign of bloated government. Here’s another apparent example of an agency with more money than need nor in-house imagination can justify:

The Haywood County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council is seeking proposals to provide services to Juvenile Court-involved youth in Haywood County.

The JCPC anticipates funds from the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP) in the amount of $143,039. Qualified programs will serve delinquent and at-risk youth for the state fiscal year 2012-13, beginning on July 1. Local public agencies, 501©3 nonprofit corporations and local housing authorities are invited to submit applications . . .

Don’t get me wrong. The causes the funds are supposed to remedy are all worthy. My hangup is I have long since lost faith in programs; especially government ones with big overhead.
