The Jackson County Commissioners gave Meals on Wheels an additional $15,000 last year to serve those on its waiting list. (See 1 and 2.) Supposedly 30 of 43 waiters were to be added, but the communication was not complete. Imagine the commissioners’ surprise this month when they discovered that the waiters were still waiting. Investigation following the revelation indicated the money was untouched, sitting around to make sure existing services would not be disrupted this year. A shortage of volunteers was also cited as cause. The commissioners also requested that persons able to pay for the warm meals and those able to travel to the Senior Café do so.
