NetApp, a data storage firm, announced today that it’s coming to RTP and bringing with it 460 jobs over the next four years.  The catch?  They’re also eligible for $11.8 million in state “incentives.”  In other words, taxpayers are going to foot a substantial chunk of the bill for NetApp to set up shop and hire new workers.  If they do indeed get $11.8 million dollars, and they do hire 460 people, taxpayers will be paying well over $25,000 to the company for EACH of those new jobs!

Have we not yet learned our lesson about these sorts of incentives?  Is this destined to be another Dell?
