According to an article in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune,

For the second straight year, low-income students in the Minneapolis Public Schools fared better than the ones who were bused to suburban schools under the Choice is Yours, a voluntary desegregation program.

Unlike Wake County, the Minneapolis public school system actually studies the performance of the low income students that are bused to the ‘burbs. Of course, the major difference between the two experiments in social engineering is that parents in Minneapolis volunteer to have their children bused, whereas Wake County parents have no choice. Either way, busing low income students to more affluent neighborhoods is no panacea.
