The Wake County schools reassignment plan is a done deal, despite protests from parents. Only two board members voted “no.” Kudos to Ron Margiotta and Beverley Clark.

WPTF News reports in today’s 7 a.m. newscast that parent Daphne Wright has had enough. Wright told WPTF:

“It’s extremely frustrating. I did not sleep Sunday night. It’s just frustrating to think they’re gonna mess with your child. You know, fine, mess with me. Do what you want. But do not mess with my kid.”

Well said, Ms. Wright.

Reasonable people understand that when new schools open, there will be necessary shifting of some kids. However, the board’s misguided busing-for-economic diversity plan is making the situation worse. The board should immediately begin to evalute the busing program’s impact on student achievement. But as we know, most board members simply don’t want to know.
