The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce severed its affiliation with the US Chamber of Commerce. The action stems from local members’ concern about the national organization’s “conservative leanings on such hot button issues as climate change and healthcare reform legislation.”
The chamber’s website officially states stances of the national organization were a distraction from the local chamber’s nonpartisan goal of job attraction and creation. The national chamber responded to other local chambers’ decisions to sever relations for the same reasons by saying its stances are the best for job growth and business.
