From Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht comes this twist of logic. He’s not comfortable with the town making a decision to remove elective abortions from town health insurance coverage. Here’s an excerpt from Davis Bass’ Carolina Journal story on the movement by local governments, including Wake County, to address the subject:

Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht was skeptical of reversing his town’s policy on abortion coverage in an interview with The Cary News.

“It raises all kinds of broader questions,” he said. “Which is why, in my opinion, this is not the business of a local council. We’re supposed to be setting local policy, not deciding these bigger life issues.”

Problem is, Mr. Mayor, by not looking at the question, you have, in essence, already decided one of “these bigger life issues” since the town policy covers elective abortions.

The Wake County commissioners will take up the question on Monday.
