The local daily is talking about a new school tax. Their article features an advocacy group that says they only want the tax as a last resort. As rationale for the tax, the article complains that per-pupil spending in the county is middle-of-the-pack, as if we should blow off common sense and studies that indicate that per-pupil spending is not horribly linked to achievement. Nobody asked me, but I think the paper is trying to pressure the legislature into appropriating more funding for schools.
