If we are to believe what we read in newspapers and pretend words have the same meanings they had twenty years ago, we’re a mess. There are a number of crises plaguing children in Buncombe County, each afflicting somewhere between 10% and 20% of children. Single moms are super-successful, but the federal government is failing to provide adequate funding for “a dizzying number of nonprofits [that] call Western North Carolina home.”

I shall continue my diatribe from yesterday. So as not to be divisive, I will suggest there is a continuum of men, with stiff suits paying the bills on one end and gross slouches making and abandoning babies on the other. The government-media complex applauds perverse incentives to facilitate erosion, and I am upholding the old definition of erosion as the process whereby marginal portions of a structure with integrity are transformed to detritus, and strong portions become marginal.
