The N.C. Board of Elections could issue a ruling linked to this week’s campaign finance inquiry as early as Friday, but the investigation will continue past this week.

That’s the promise from elections board chairman Larry Leake. Just before adjourning today’s session, Leake said the board would call another witness or witnesses linked to the N.C. State Optometric Society political action committee.

Then the board could issue a ruling. But Leake says the hearing will then be continued to another date.

“Those witnesses or parties interested in that portion of our investigation which we have generically referred to as the video poker portion of our investigation are excused,” Leake said. “You will be renotified as to when to appear back before this board.”

“Tomorrow will be by no means the end of this inquiry,” Leake said.
