In the least surprising sports news of 2007 so far, the Bobcats will have a new coach next year. Bernie Bickerstaff will not return, so says Bobcat hoops czar Michael Jordan.

You knew Bernie was gone the minute Jordan came on board, as you don’t give a guy complete basketball control and try to tell him who his coach has to be. The really interesting thing is that it does not sound like Stick is gonna keep the GM role either.

This suggests Jordan wants to offer the coach/GM package to a name coach. In turn, the first name who pops to mind is fellow Tar Heel and coaching vagabond Larry Brown. But Brown, at this point, I think would be a horrible fit for the Bobcats. The first thing he would want to do is blow up the roster and start over.

The Bobcats, frankly, do not have time for that. Charlotte needs to use some cap room, another lotto pick, and put a playoff-worthy team on the floor next year.
