Some pretty big guns are putting a lot of preasure on our NC Congressional Delegation to get on board with the Central American Free Trade Agreement. Sen. Elizebeth Dole is the only one who has publicly signed on – so far. (Source: The Herald-Sun, today.)

As I understand it, CAFTA is basically the next step after NAFTA. It would open up free trade with Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua – not just Mexico and Canada (like NAFTA did).

My questions are: What do you all think this would do to the remaining manufacturing jobs in NC? Is this good or bad policy for NC? And, why?

(Looking for input and perspectives – thanks.)
