Together NC, a “broad and diverse collection of non-profit organizations, service providers, and professional associations” with a shared objective of making state government as large, expensive, and intrusive as possible, held a wake of sorts this morning at the Halifax Mall near the General Assembly — a “Farewell Party for North Carolina’s Public Investments.” The coalition is mourning the end of civilization as we know it: The General Assembly’s 2011-12 budget, which would spend 99 percent as much as Gov. Bev Perdue’s proposed spending plan … you know, the one that signals Nirvana. Together NC’s announcement is below.
You know, as I was driving down Hillsborough Street this morning, I could have sworn the bell tower at NC State University was turning to rubble even before the Senate took the final vote overriding Perdue’s veto.
Carolina Journal‘s Don Carrington attended the rally, and took some photos, but he didn’t get any cake.
Here’s a thought: If the protesters had taken their cake budget and instead put that money into the “Tax Me More” fund, how many teacher jobs could they have saved?
