The Buncombe County Commissioners will be holding a public hearing on their budget Tuesday. Amidst the “FY2013 Outside Agency Budget Requests” is a planned donation of $200,000 toward the BID.

Now, you anti-BIDders are surely smart enough to recognize the strategy of getting the county and city to promise funding, so whichever caves first will be held up to the other to make funding appear necessary. Children of divorced parents do it all the time to get what they want.

Well, if you don’t like the idea of, and I love that phrase, “privatized governance,” combined with:

  • an added layer of bureaucracy
  • at least a 7% tax increase
  • city council making you pay twice for basic city services because they squandered the first round on:
    • studies
    • refurbishments to the pink palace
    • an unprofitable golf operation
    • co-funding with the federal deficit ineffective programs, Homeland Security wizmo-gizmos, and budget-stretching staff add-ons
    • elaborately landscaped greenways
    • business bribes to transfer income from some companies to others (a.k.a. economic development incentives)
    • “ambassadors” who we hope never get cocky or goony
    • municipal branding
    • dilution of one-person-one-vote democracy by the agendas of the board members
    • etc.

then maybe you should let the commissioners know. If you don’t, then I shall have to, and you do not wish to hear me attempt to speak publicly.
