• Freshman Rep. Alma Adams, D-12th District, again will get a boost from EMILY’s List, the fundraising arm of pro-choice advocacy groups. The group and its political action committee provided roughly $300,000 for Adams’ successful 2014 campaign.

• Greensboro’s Adams may need the help; she’ll have to fend off at least six primary challengers AND she no longer lives in her district — which now is located entirely in Mecklenburg County. The latest candidate filing information from the State Board of Elections shows seven Democrats seeking the seat, including state Reps.Tricia CothamCarla Cunningham, and Rodney Moore and former state Sen.Malcolm Graham, all of Mecklenburg County.

• And then there’s the now-open 13th District, where incumbent GOP Rep. George Holding has decided not to run so he can challenge 2nd District incumbent Renee Ellmers instead. At last count, there are 22 (count ’em) candidates: 17 Republicans and five Democrats. The Republicans include state Sen. Andrew Brock and Reps.John Blust, Julia Howard, and Harry Warren. The Democrats include Bruce Davis, who initially filed for the 6th Congressional District before the congressional maps were rejected by a federal court; Kevin Griffin, who lost his party’s U.S. Senate primary; and Mazie Ferguson, who lost her party’s primary for commissioner of labor. The candidate with the largest family may prevail.

• There’s a third candidate challenging Associate Justice Bob Edmunds in the primary: Daniel Robertson, who filed last week. The state moved from competitive elections to a retention system for appellate judges, but the statute was overturned in court and it’s unclear if the state will appeal the decision, so there’s a need for candidates to file.
