• Buncombe County Commissioner Holly Jones is on the airwaves with an ad touting her record as she seeks the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. Jones will face 2012 Democratic nominee Linda Coleman, Durham attorney Ron Newton, and Wake County state employee Robert Wilson in Tuesday’s primary.
• A WRAL News/Survey USA poll of likely N.C. voters conducted between Friday and Monday found Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton with significant leads among Republicans and Democrats, respectively, leading up to the primary. Trump led Ted Cruz 41 percent-27 percent, with Marco Rubio (14 percent) and John Kasich (11 percent) far behind. Meantime, Clinton beats Bernie Sanders by a 57-34 margin.
• Clinton will be in the Triangle Thursday, with appearances scheduled at Durham Hillside High School and Broughton High School in Raleigh. Carolina Journal will have coverage of the Raleigh event.
• And a little shameless self-promotion: The award-winning team of Curtis Media Group (and Carolina Journal Radio co-host) Donna Martinez, Carolinian newspaper Editor-in-Chief Cash Michaels, and I will provide comprehensive coverage of the North Carolina primary Tuesday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the North Carolina News Network. The flagship station is WPTF 680-AM in Raleigh, and we’ll be joined by a group of affiliates across North Carolina. (Check this space for a list in the next couple of days.) You also can listen to a livestream of our coverage on the WPTF website or mobile app.
