I recently posted Mike Munger’s excellent essay on the damage that the infamous McCain-Feingold legislation is doing. Today’s Wall Street Journal has a good article entitled “Reformzilla” that strikes many of the same chords.

Among the bad news in the article: North Carolina is among the states that has gone beyond McCain-Feingold in restricting campaign communications.

But there is also some good news. The author is a lawyer who is challenging authoritarian campaign laws in Wisconsin and Vermont. I think that the First Amendment ice on which these campaign finance laws rest is exceedingly thin. Maybe it’s about to be broken.
