The US Supreme Court made bad law last week on campaign finance reform instead of interpreting the Constitution, which is its function. Reform won’t come from McCain-Feingold, in any case. The politicians will find ways around it.

It can only be done by holding federal spending to its constitutional functions: general government (congress, executive, state, defense, judiciary) and the 13 items in Article I, Section 8.

As I pointed out in “Locke, Jefferson and the Justices: Foundations and Failures of the US Government” amazon.comtrue reform lies in following the Constitution. Total government spending would then be only $400 billion, 20 percent of the current $2 trillion. Holding office would not be worth raising millions, and the abuses would cease.
