My community of Hillsborough is looking at improvements to a corridor at U.S. 70 and N.c. 86. You have to read way down the story to find information that sounds like eminent domain power may be in residents’ future. The Herald-Sun story includes this from Margaret Hauth the town planner. Emphasis is mine.

The presentation included pictures of current corridor sites, along with illustrations of what it could look like redeveloped.

Hauth said that people whose properties are in the before pictures should not take that as a negative comment on what’s there now. Instead, she asked them to consider the ideas as support if a property owner was considering redevelopment.

So what might happen if a property owner isn’t considering redevelopment?

I think we know. Just ask some folks in Durham.
