David Gordon reviews Hunter Lewis’ new book Crony Capitalism, which shows how deeply our economy is distorted due to the use of government power to help those with influence.
This is not a Republican problem and it’s not a Democrat problem. It’s a problem inherent in the mega-state. When people can use government coercion for their own ends, unscrupulous individuals and groups will put their efforts into doing that. The Constitution was written with the intention of minimizing the opportunities for the manipulation of government power for private ends, but unfortunately the limits on power were eviscerated long ago.
