The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching recently named Anthony S. Bryk as its next president. Rick Hess and Rosemary Kendrick have an excellent article explaining why Dr. Bryk’s appointment is important to education reform efforts in the U.S.

I have never met Dr. Bryk, but I have read his most influential book (co-authored with Valerie Lee and Peter Holland), Catholic Schools and the Common Good, which Hess and Kendrick describe as the “definitive account of how effectively Catholic schools educate disadvantaged students.”
