A WUNC Radio story about an email exchange between a North Carolina teacher and state Sen. David Curtis includes Curtis’ citation of two numbers derived and publicized by Carolina Journal Executive Editor Don Carrington. Carrington computed for a January CJ cover story that the average private-sector worker in North Carolina earns 87 percent of the pay of an average private-sector worker nationwide, and that the average public school employee gets 85 percent of the national average. Curtis used those numbers to counter the argument that public school teachers ought to be paid at the national average.

The Charlotte Observer‘s “O-Pinion” blog cited Carolina Journal Associate Editor Barry Smith‘s legislative preview article, while a Jacksonville Daily News editorial praised Dan Way’s recent election profile for North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District Republican primary. (As the Carolina Journal’s Dan Way detailed in his excellent article appearing in The Daily News on Saturday, the Republican primary for the congressional seat representing the 3rd District has been anything but politics as usual.) The Laurinburg Exchange published Michael Lowrey’s CJ column on the corruption charges that drove former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon from office.

NCPoliticalNews.com promoted Smith’s legislative preview, Way’s story on health insurance mandates, Becki Gray’s column on the new legislative session, and CJ contributor Kristen Blair‘s column on homework overload. N.C. Senate Republicans promoted in their daily press emails Smith’s legislative preview, his report on Gov. Pat McCrory’s budget plan, and Way’s health mandates article.
