One of the top issues for state lawmakers this week involved efforts to override Gov. Beverly Perdue’s veto of House Bill 2, the North Carolina Health Care Protection Act. Carolina Journal Associate Editor David Bass discussed that topic and other legislative issues during an appearance with Chad Adams on the WLTT Radio morning show. The Lincoln Tribune and N.C. Senate Republican daily press e-mail both highlighted several CJ reports this week: Associate Editor Anthony Greco‘s recap of last week’s legislative action and his preview of this week’s work, Greco’s article offering a critique of Perdue’s efforts to shore up the state pension fund, Greco’s CarolinaJournal.tv report on a proposed Sunshine Amendment, Bass’ article on efforts to scrap the local-option land-transfer tax, contributor Kristy Bailey‘s report on a bill to restore more flexibility for local school boards in setting their school calendars, and Managing Editor Rick Henderson‘s report on an appellate court decision to block state government from seizing coastal Onslow County property from a group of African-American heirs. The Tar Heel Tribune also published Greco’s legislative recap. The Jefferson Post picked up Henderson’s recent column on pruning the number of state boards and commissions. The Lincoln Tribune, Tar Heel Tribune, N.C. Alliance for Public Charter Schools, and Education-News.us website promoted Associate Editor Sara Burrows‘ report on the legislative battle over charter schools. The Lincoln Tribune also picked up Burrows’ article on efforts to reverse the state’s ban on coastal terminal groins.
