Don’t be surprised if you start seeing breathless reports about how it would be possible to have cars that get 500 miles per gallon if only the federal government would create the right incentives. This has the aroma of another of those leftist pseudo-facts that the media likes to treat as the truth and chatter about until the average American is convinced that 500 mpg cars would be in our garages soon if it weren’t for nasty old oil interests.
