Wow. Just how depressing, yet utterly, utterly predictable is that?

Demario James Atwater, 21, the suspect arrested last night in Durham and charged with first degree murder in the death of Eve Carson, was convicted of felony breaking and entering in 2005 in Wake County. He received 36 months of probation. In June of 2007, Atwater was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon in Granville County. He received 24 months of probation, concurrent to his previous felony sentence.

Police are still looking for Lawrence Alvin Lovett Jr., 17, who they believe to be the individual in the drive-thru ATM photos. Given that the N&O has a mugshot of him (right), I have to assume Lovett has a record as well.

This is the human cost of the Down East kleptocracy.

Update: Right Angles has all the details on Atwater’s and Lovett’s criminal records. Adds several more offenses to Atwater’s history and confirms that Lovett does in fact have a record.

Were Mike Easley standing in front of me, I’d punch him in the throat.
