The left has always had a knack for sticking it to poor and working class people in the name of helping them. They’ve been doing it for years with the minimum wage, which prices the least skilled workers out of the job market. Right now in North Carolina we have a “progressive” governor and general assembly who, in the name of progressivity are giving us an income tax surcharge that hits upper income earners and businesses more that middle income families, while the bulk of the tax increase is coming from higher sales taxes and excises on smokers and alcoholic beverages. Go get em you champions of the common man.

And now there’s the cash for clunkers program. Again the effect will be to hurt the poor and charitable organizations. This program is in the process of taking many thousands of low cost used cars off the market, making such cars more scarce, and driving up their price. This will especially hurt poor Americans with large families. The government has now officially made larger, inexpensive entry level used cars an enemy of the state. And any Google search will turn up dozens of charities that raise money by accepting donations of these same “clunkers” that the government is paying to remove from circulation. Again, doing what the left does best, sticking it to those in need.
