You must be a redneck if you believe that giving caterpillar $2 million for adding jobs that it would have added without the money is a bad deal. In other words, Caterpillar needs to expand production to meet demand. To meet this demand, it must hire 199 workers.  So now NC has streamlined its economic development policy.  Companies don’t even have to threaten to move out of the state anymore to get economic development money.

Caterpillar will receive a $400,000 grant from the state’s One North Carolina Fund if it meets hiring and investment goals. The company is also eligible to receive $1.644 million under a jobs grant approved by state officials today if it meets hiring and investment goals.
