Driveby media were supposed to become all atwitter with the dog-and-pony public hearing soliciting comments in opposition to the findings of Tim Moffitt’s study committee, which was formed to conclude that the city’s water system should be controlled by the Metropolitan Sewerage District. The only new information was that a vast number of activists now believe Art Pope and ALEC are conspiring to force the system into the hands of Big Oil in order to frac.

The real big news, however, was that the city has created a trust and increased annual contributions to fully fund its OPEB obligations. It also took the courageous step of denying future hires retirement healthcare benefits. If I read the staff report correctly, and am not missing any obvious shell games or redefinitions of terms, this is cause to get down and party-hearty.
