Something in the water at the University of Michigan in the early 90s produced three good writers of different political colors. Jonathan Chait reminds us of John McCain’s record
before he became a conservative this year. Chait provides a long list
of lefty comments and bills, but if you forget everything else about
McCain, remember this:


In the first two years of George W. Bush’s presidency, McCain became,
in the words of one prominent Democrat, “the leader of the loyal
opposition.” McCain voted against both of Bush’s major tax cuts.
