The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce sent a letter to the Board of Commissioners and the Wake County Board of Education, asking them to, “quickly resolve any inter-governmental conflict that undermines the credibility of your collective good work over the past year.” (The “good work” was selling promises in exchange for a billion-dollar bond. The “inter-governmental conflict” was the Board of Commissioners valiant opposition to the school board’s plans to convert schools to mandatory year-round calendars.)

The letter is based on a false premise, namely that the conflict is between the Board of Commissioners and school board. In reality, the conflict is between parents and the school board, and no amount of inter-governmental love or peacekeeping efforts by the GRCC will resolve that conflict.

Besides, a little conflict does the body politic good.
